West Balkans regional roaming agreement enters into force

Mobile phone users in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia pay less while roaming within the region since 01 July. Calls are up to eight times cheaper, and costs for data drop on average from EUR 3/MB to EUR 0.20/MB. 

The new regional roaming agreement is a first step towards the introduction of "roam like at home" within the region, with further reductions of roaming charges planned from 1 January 2020. The initiative is part of the Digital Agenda for the Western Balkans, launched by the European Commission in June 2018.

Western Balkans countries reduce roaming fees again from July

The price of incoming calls and data transfer (internet services) when roaming in the Western Balkans countries has fallen again from 1 July, as part of a gradual process of reducing roaming fees in the region. The cost of incoming calls will drop by 37.5 percent, from 4 eurocents per minute to 2.5 cents, and the price of data will drop by 40 percent, from 2.5 cents per MB to 1.5 cents.

Roaming prices in the Western Balkans have been cut by 9-35 percent from the start of 2020, in line with the second phase of implementation of the regional roaming agreement. However, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina have not implemented the new cut, saying their operators need more time to adjust.

Balkan regulators sign border frequency coordination agreements

The regulatory bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia have signed five technical agreements on border coordination of frequencies for mobile/fixed communication networks (MFCN) in bands intended for mobile communications.

Albania begins implementing roaming deal with Kosovo

Kosovo's Minister of Economic Development Valjdrin Lluka announced that Albania has begun implementing the agreement to abolish roaming tariffs for residents of Kosovo who visit Albania, reports RTK2. Vodafone Albania informed users of the changes in prices, in line with the agreement signed between the Western Balkan countries, which are valid for both prepaid and postpaid users.

Western Balkan countries sign regional roaming agreement

A regional roaming agreement for the Western Balkans was signed at the second Digital Summit in Belgrade, which will allow cheaper roaming from 01 July this year, reports Beta. In the first phase, roaming prices will be cut by 27 percent, and from 01 July 2021, roaming charges should be abolished in the countries of the Western Balkans. From July, the price of calls will not exceed RSD 22.40, an SMS will not cost more than RSD 7, and the maximum price for 1 MB of data will be RSD 21.40.

Western Balkans to sign roaming agreement in April

Serbia's Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications said that a regional roaming agreement between the countries of the Western Balkans will be signed on 4-5 April during a summit in Belgrade, reports Beta. State Secretary Tatiana Matic said that the regional integration will encourage the development of the digital economy, and contribute to the unified digital market of the EU. She added that the agreement will define the regulation of retail and wholesale prices.

Balkan mobile users to 'roam like at home' from 2021

A new roaming agreement in the Western Balkans is in the pipeline. Prices will be reduced by July, leading to zero roaming cost by 2021. These are the main conclusions of the second round of negotiations, organised by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC).
