WhatsApp encryption vulnerable to backdoor - report

Monday 16 January 2017 | 09:29 CET | News
WhatsApp's claim of end-to-end encryption of messages over its app may be subject to abuse, according to a report from the Guardian. The security loophole was discovered by Tobias Boelter, a cryptography and security researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. He found that WhatsApp has the ability to force the generation of new encryption keys, without knowledge of the sender or recipient of a message, essentially providing a 'backdoor' for others to intercept the content of the message.
