Wind-3 Italia merger to get EU approval soon - report

The European Union's antitrust authorities are set to approve the merger of Italian mobile operators Wind and 3 Italia as early as next week, according to two unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg. EU competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager is said to have given her blessing to the transaction after the two companies agreed to concessions that will allow France's Iliad to enter the Italian phone market. Last month Wind and 3 Italia's parent companies VimpelCom and CK Hutchison signed an agreement to sell Iliad redundant towers and frequencies.
