WOM, Telefonica and GTD to bid for Chile southern fibre tender

Chilean telecommunications regulator Subtel confirmed that the operators WOM, Movistar Chile (Telefonica) and GTD have been accepted as bidders for the final stretch of the country's National Fibre Optic (FON) initiative. The bids for the southern macro-zone project will now be evaluated and the winning bid revealed next month, said the watchdog, which previously announced that a total of CLP 86 billion (around USD 120 million) had been earmarked for the FON project, the largest government subsidy ever assigned in the history of the Chilean telecommunications sector.
