Worldwide mobile handset shipments up 13% in Q2
Global handset shipments grew 13 percent annually to reach 361 million units in the second quarter of 2011, according to Strategy Analytics. Nokia's market share fell from 34.7 percent a year ago to 24.5 percent this year, a level not seen since 1999 according to the market researcher. Samsung, with an estimated 74.0 million handsets shipped, was number two with a market share of 20.5 percent, up from 19.9 a year earlier. LG remained in third with a 6.9 percent share, down from 9.6 percent a year earlier, while Apple closed the gap on LG, increasing its share to 5.6 percent from 2.6. ZTE also showed a sharp improvement, rising from 3.3 percent last year to a 5.0 percent share this year.
