ZTE handset shipments up 30% to 35 mln in H1

ZTE announced that it shipped over 60 million mobile devices in the first half of 2011, including 35 million handsets. Handset shipments were up 30 percent from a year earlier, led by a 400 percent increase in smartphone sales and 300 percent US market growth. ZTE said 'smart terminal' sales reached 5 million units in H1, up 400 percent from a year earlier. Growth was led by the ZTE Blade smartphone, available with 80 operators in almost 50 countries. The company claims the Blade leads daily sales in China for Android smartphones, averaging 16,000 units per day. ZTE has now sold 2.5 million Blade handsets globally and expects to break the 5 million mark this year. In Europe, where ZTE sells smartphones with over 65 operators, the company's handset sales were up over 30 percent in H1. In the second half, the company plans to launch over 30 smartphones, including mid- to high-end devices such as the Skate, a Windows Phone 7 and TD-LTE dual-module and dual-waiting models. The company aims to ship 12 million smartphones in the second half of the year.
