Worldwide tablet shipments grow 50% in Q3

Worldwide tablet shipments totalled 27.8 million units in the third quarter, according to new data from IDC. The tablet market grew 49.5 percent year-over-year in the third quarter and 6.7 percent over the second quarter. Android shipments, led by Samsung and Amazon, surged during the quarter, at the expense of Apple, which saw its share slip during the quarter. Apple's worldwide market tablet share fell from 65.5 percent to 50.4 percent in the third quarter, resulting in the remaining top-five tablet vendors gaining share. Samsung shipped 5.1 million tablets in the third quarter, up 325.0
