Xiaomi starts smartphone production in Brazil
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has started production of handsets in Brazil, its first market in the Americas. Xiaomi also announced that it will start selling its Redmi 2 smartphone in Brazil for BRL 499 on 7 July. It will also offer the MiBand and MiPowerBank for sale in Brazil. The Xiaomi phones are assembled in Brazil with Foxconn, which manufactures Apple iPhones in the country since 2011.

Apple opens store at Sao Paulo Airport with cheaper prices

Apple has opened a store at Terminal 3 of Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo that sells the iPhone at below official prices, reports Folha de Sao Paulo. Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has received the official endorsement of Brazil's Ministry of Communications to gain access to the benefits of the Law on Goods - exemption of Pis/Cofins taxes, for the local production of the Redmi 2 smartphone by Foxconn. Alcatel launches Idol 3 smartphone in Brazil for BRL 1,099

Alcatel Onetouch has presented its new Idol 3 smartphone to the Brazilian market, reports Gizmodo. The device costs BRL 1,099 and features a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor at 1.2 GHz. It has 1.5 GB of memory and 16 GB internal storage, 4G connectivity, a 4.7-inch IPS screen, HD resolution, runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, has a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front one.

Xiaomi sells out initial stock of Redmi 2 in Brazil

Chinese company Xiaomi has sold all of its initial stock of the Redmi 2, its first smartphone available on the Brazilian market, reports Mndobit. Xiaomi held its first online sales event on 7 July and the next one is scheduled for 17 July, with open registration online. The company's strategy for Brazil is to offer the Redmi exclusively online. Brazilian smartphone sales drop in April and May

Smartphone sales in Brazil dropped by 1 percent in April and by 16 percent in May, when compared with the same period of 2014, according to figures published by IDC, reports Reuters. The consultancy forecasts that these devices will register a decline in sales for the full year 2015. The survey indicates that sales totalled 4.86 million units in April and 3.89 million in May.

Xiaomi H1 smartphone sales up 33%

Xiaomi announced sales of 34.7 million smartphones in the first half of 2015, a 33 percent year-on-year increase. While the growth was strong, it leaves the company behind on its full-year sales target. China's Xiaomi to sell phones in Brazil by end of H1

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi plans to start selling its devices in Brazil by the end of the first half of 2015, reports Folha de Sao Paulo. The confirmation came from Hugo Barra, the global vice-president of the company, during an event for the launch of the new Mi Note mobile phone.
