Xiaomi unveils Mi 5 smartphone at MWC
Xiaomi has unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the Mi 5 at Mobile World Congress. Running Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 820 processor, the Mi 5 comes with a range of premium features, such as a 3,000 mAh battery with QuickCharge 3.0, a 16-megapixel camera with Sony sensor and 4-axis optical image stabilisation, support for LTE at up to 600 Mbps and VoLTE, front fingerprint sensor and 4 GB RAM. 

The 'Pro' version with a ceramic back cover and 128 GB of onboard flash storage will sell for CNY 2,999, while models with glass covers and 64 or 32 GB storage will cost respectively CNY 2,299 and CNY 1,999. The Mi 5 with 5.15-inch full HD screen will be available in a choice of three colours - black, gold and white.

Xiaomi unveils 6.4-inch Mi Max

Xiaomi has introduced a new smartphone called the Mi Max. The Mix Max is the company's largest smartphone yet, with a 6.44-inch screen and 4850mAh battery. It runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650/652 processor and up to 4 GB memory and features a 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera with wide-angle lens, dual-Sim slot, 4G+ and a fingerprint sensor. It comes in silver, gold or dark grey for CNY 1,499 with various memory/CPU options and support for 128GB microSD cards.

Xiaomi selects Vidyo tech for Mi Video Call app

Xiaomi announced the availability of an app for consumers based on technology from Vidyo. Xiaomi integrates NFC tech from NXP on Mi 5 smartphone

NXP Semiconductors and Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi have signed a partnership deal to cooperate on mobile payments for public transit systems. As a key part of this collaboration, Xiaomi introduced its flagship Mi 5 equipped with NXP's Secure Element and NFC technology. The newly launched Mi5 models will allow customers to use tap-to-pay for travelling, enter and exit public transport systems without using a ticket or travel card, and enable balance checking, while ensuring payment security, Xiaomi said.

Xiaomi to start using in-house chips from H2 - report

Xiaomi wants to start using smartphone processor chips designed in-house in some of its lower-priced handsets in the second half, Reuters reported, citing a source with direct knowledge of the matter. The in-house smartphone application processor chips are designed for Xiaomi's mid to low-priced smartphone model RedMi Note series. It is still unclear how many Xiaomi is planning to make this year, the source said.

China smartphone shipments up 3% to 438 mln units in 2015

China smartphone shipments increased by 3 percent year-on-year to a record 438 million units in 2015. Xiaomi led the market, with a 15 percent smartphone market share in China at 31 December 2015, according to a report from Strategy Analytics. For the full year, Xiaomi shipped 67.5 million smartphones.

Xiaomi internet services revenue jumps 150% in 2015

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi's internet services revenue jumped by 150 percent in 2015 to CNY 3.71 billion (approximately USD 564 million), from CNY 1.48 billion in 2014, shows an internal document reviewed by Reuters. However, Xiaomi missed its internal target of USD 1 billion. Xiaomi's internet services revenue includes games and mobile payment applications.

Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi has expanded its entry-level Redmi smartphone line, with the launch of 'Redmi 3'. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has sold more than 3 million phones in India since entering the market in July 2014, and is considering entering the US market, its president said.
