Xiaomi's Redmi 7 to launch in China from 26 March

Xiaomi announced that the Redmi 7, the latest smartphone under its low-cost Redmi brand, will be available in China from 26 March in three versions with different internal storage capacities. The new smartphone will retail at CNY 699 for the 2GB+16GB version, CNY 799 for the 3GB+32GB version and CNY 999 for the 4GB+64GB model. 

Powered by Android 9, the smartphone has a 6.26-inch IPS LCD touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset (4x1.8 GHz Kryo 250 Gold, 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 250 Silver), microSD slot for cards up to 512 GB, 12 MP main camera, 8 MP selfie camera, and 4000 mAh battery. It supports Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n, WiFi Direct, hotspot), Bluetooth and GPS and comes equipped with fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, proximity, and compass sensors.

Xiaomi said revenues for the first quarter rose 27.2 percent from the year before to CNY 43.8 billion, and that its operating profit lifted 12.5 percent to CNY 3.7 billion. The net profit however dipped almost 6 percent lower to CNY 3.2 billion.

Xiaomi ships over 1 mln Mi 9 phones in a month, Redmi Note 7 passes 4 mln units

Xiaomi announced that it's shipped over 1 million units of its flagship Mi 9 smartphone as of 31 March, just over a month after its launch. Furthermore, the Redmi Note 7, its smartphone with a 48 megapixel camera launched in January, passed 4 million units as of 29 March, the company announced on Twitter.

Xiaomi launches first Android Go phone in India

Xiaomi released its first Android Go phone, the Redmi Go, in India at an event in New Delhi. Powered by the Go version of Android 8.1 Oreo, which is designed for low-memory, entry-level smartphones, the device has a 5-inch 720p 16:9 screen, two cameras of 8 and 5 megapixels, 1GB of RAM, the Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor up to 1.4GHz, 3,000mAh battery and 8GB of expandable internal storage. The Redmi Go retails at INR 4,499 and will go on sale 22 March on Xiaomi's site, before expanding to other retail

Xiaomi grows FY revenues 53% on expansion abroad, new products

Xiaomi announced revenues of CNY 174.9 billion for 2018, up 52.6 percent. The Chinese company benefited from its expansion abroad, with international revenues more than doubling to CNY 70 billion, as well as expansion into new product categories and services, such as smart TVs and speakers. Net profit for the year totaled CNY 13.5 billion, compared to a loss of CNY 43.9 billion in 2017, and adjusted net profit grew 59.5 percent to CNY 8.6 billion.

Xiaomi launches Redmi Note 7 in Italy from EUR 180

Xiaomi has announced the imminent launch of its mid-range Redmi Note 7 smartphone in Italy a week after the global version was unveiled in Spain. The 3GB RAM and 32GB storage version will be available from 21 March at a cost of EUR 179.90, while the 6GB/64GB model can be acquired starting 15 March at a price of EUR 199.90 from Mi Stores and authorised resellers Unieuro, Mediaworld, Trony, Expert and Euronics. All models come in Space Black, Neptune Blue and Nebula Red.

Xiaomi targets expansion in connected devices, global smartphone market

Xiaomi has outlined its strategy going forward at its annual party in Beijing, saying it will have two core areas: smartphones and AIoT (AI + IoT). The company will invest CNY 10 billion in AIoT in the next five years, in order to grow further its base of 132 million connected devices, founder and CEO Lei Jun said.

Xiaomi unveils Redmi Note 7 with 48 MP camera from EUR 130

Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi Note 7, the first smartphone under its newly independent Redmi brand, a 6.3-inch device at a price starting at CNY 9,999 (around EUR 130). The handset comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a rear-facing dual cameras, one with a 48-megapixel image sensor and an f/1.8 lens and the other with 5 megapixels for depth information. Other features include a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, a 4,000mAh battery, USB-C charging, a headphone jack and a Snapdragon 660 processor

Xiaomi unveils flagship Mi 8 smartphones, standalone VR headset

Xiaomi has unveiled its new flagship smartphone series, the Mi 8, at an event Shenzen, as well as its standalone VR headset developed with Oculus. The Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE will launch first in China in June, while a more premium edition, the Mi 8 Explorer with in-display fingerprint reader and 3D face unlock, will be available later.
