Yahoo scans emails to sell data to advertisers

Oath, the Verizon advertising unit owning Yahoo and AOL, has been offering data gathered from customers' email accounts to advertisers for sale, the Wall Street Journal reports. People who have attended Oath's presentations as well as current and former employees of the company confirmed the practice for Yahoo mail, and Oath said it does the same with AOL mail.
