Yoigo reports 60% drop in New Year SMS traffic

Spanish operator Yoigo reported that 8 percent more customers used mobile data services over the New Year's holiday, and data used per customer rose 170 percent from a year earlier. In total, data traffic was up 83 percent year-on-year at the operator. Voice traffic also increased over the holiday, with the number of calls up 17 percent and the duration of calls increasing 9 percent. SMS was the only service to show a decline in traffic, down 60 percent year-on-year as customers preferred online instant messaging apps.
