ZTE has launched sales of a new crowdsourced smartphone via the Kickstarter platform. Last year the company held a contest to collect ideas for a new concept phone and a "eye-tracking, self-adhesive" smartphone was selected as the winner. This has now been code-named Hawkeye and gone on sale on Kickstarter for USD 199. The device is expected to ship globally in Q3.
Developed by ZTE, the phone will have an adhesive back, so it can be attached to the wall and free up the user's hands. The eye-tracking technology in the phone's camera will allow users to navigate the web and apps without having to use the touch screen. Other features are expected to include dual Sim slot, 5.5-inch FHD display, dual rear cameras, fingerprint sensor, large battery with quick charging, expandable memory and Android 7.0. ZTE said the phone will sell unlocked and support common 2G and 3G bands around the world, as well as the 4G bands most common in North America.
