ZTE plans to set up mobile phone R&D centre in India
Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturer ZTE plans to open a R&D centre dedicated to mobile phones in India, The Economic Times reports. The Chinese firm did not provide details on the timeline or the expected investment for the new facility, according to the report. ZTE has 18 R&D centres across China, US and Europe. The firm spends 10 percent of its revenue from handsets on R&D. The Chinese company also said that it expects to launch six new smartphones this year in the Indian market. ZTE will price the smartphones between INR 7,000 and INR 18,000.

Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturer ZTE expects to ship more than 80 million smartphones globally next year and nearly 60 million this year, Reuters reports, citing ZTE's executive VP Zeng Xuezong. According to the report, the Chinese firm shipped nearly 40 million smartphones in 2013. For 2016, ZTE expects total smartphone shipments to reach about 100 million. The executive aso said that 60 percent of total smartphones to be shipped in 2015 would be handsets compatible with 4G networks.

ZTE signs agreement on R&D centre in Portugal

Chinese manufacturer ZTE signed a protocol with several Portuguese partners for setting up a centre for research, development and innovation in Braga, reports Jornal de Negocios. The cooperation agreement involving the University of Minho, the DST group and InvestBraga (which manages Startup Braga) was signed in China, during the official visit of the President of Portugal. The centre will develop and test new services and applications in the field of telecommunications.
