ZTE unveils 5G Axon flagship, new Blade mid-range smartphones

ZTE announced at MWC its first 5G smartphone, the flagship Axon 10 Pro 5G. In addition, the Chinese company is launching the new mid-range smartphones Blade V10 and V10 Vita.

The new flagship Axon device will launch with carriers including China Unicom, Elisa and Hutchison Drei Austria in the first half of 2019. ZTE said it's testing the 5G phone with operators in a total of eight countries.

Running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with the X50 5G modem, the new Axon will support sub-6GHz frequency ranges on 5G. ZTE said the device offers an "elegant design, faster and more concise in-display fingerprint and stunning audio", while its Axon Vision graphics optimization capabilities provide "incredible photos and videos".

Building on its work in networks, ZTE said it addressed a wide variety of technical difficulties inherent to 5G innovations, such as the electromagnetic compatibility, antenna design, power consumption and heat dissipation in the development process of the 5G flagship. For example, ZTE improved heat dissipation by applying a liquid cooling technology and composite phase-change thermal materials.

The phone also implements a fully self-developed, full-band antenna design to achieve full coverage of 2G/3G/4G/5G and reduced signal interference. In addition, the smartphone applies a new slot antenna and adjustable antenna architecture to ensure the best RF signal by automatically identifying user usage scenarios, and ZTE adopted the Smart SAR solution to reduce electromagnetic radiation o the user.

ZTE’s new AI performance engine gives consumers the ability to multitask through the automatic adjustment of CPU, GPU, RAM and ROM using AI algorithms. In addition, the smartphone applies AI to deliver functions such as the triple-camera with AI motion capture, scene recognition, portrait lighting adjustment and user behavior learning.

Blade V10 for smart selfies

For the mid-range market, ZTE presented the Blade V10, featuring a 32-megapixel front camera with AI functions. A more affordable version called the Blade V10 Vita will also launch in certain markets. The Blade V10 will launch in China and European markets in March and the Latin America market in April.

The Blade V10 comes with a 6.2-inch FHD screen with waterdrop notch and 90.3 percent screen-to-body ratio, Android 9, an octa-core 2.1 GHz processor, 3,200 mAh battery and a choice of 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage or 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage. In addition to the 32MP front camera, it has dual back cameras of 16 and 5 megapixels, plus an AI acceleration engine for functions such as scene recognition, power saving, gaming, and facial and voice recognition. It will be available in a choice of black, blue and green.
