ZTE launches first 5G smartphone in China

ZTE has started selling its first 5G smartphone in China, the company announced on its Wechat account, Xinhua news agency reported. First unveiled at MWC in February, the Axon 10 Pro 5G supports the 5G frequencies used by China's three mobile operators. 

The handset is equipped with a 6.47-inch Amoled display and triple back camera with 48-megapixel main sensor, ultra-wide 20-megapixel lens and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. It was released online in July for ordering over e-commerce platforms for CNY 4,999 (USD 722) and also went on sale in Finland. 

The Chinese mobile operators were granted their first 5G spectrum licences in June.

Chinese manufacturer ZTE has unveiled its new ZTE Axon 10s Pro, as a follow-up to the Axon 10 Pro 5G launched in August. The latest smartphone is compatible with both 5G SA (standalone) and NSA (non-standalone) modes and will become commercially available in China in the first quarter. ZTE Mobile Device Device president Xu Feng said the company plans to next year introduce 15 more 5G terminal devices, including a 5G smartphone priced under CNY 3,000 in the first quarter.

Nokia, Ericsson confirm 5G contracts in China

Ericsson and Nokia have signed framework deals with Chinese mobile operators for network upgrades and 5G equipment, according to Chinese media reports. The deals were signed at the ongoing China International Import Expo in Shanghai, the publication Shine reported.

ZTE announced that ZTE and Zhejiang Branch of China Mobile completed the test of ZTE's broadband remote access server (BRAS) integrated with CDN, with all functions and performance indicators meeting commercial requirements. The BRAS integrated with CDN is an innovative CDN down-shifting platform, which can help operators save their investment, ZTE said. Meanwhile, it enables users to truly experience the ultra-high-definition, VR and other large-traffic new services.

China Mobile completes network access test of ZTE's ElasticNet UME

ZTE and the Inner Mongolia Branch of China Mobile have jointly completed the network access test of ZTE' ElasticNet UME, the company's cloudified microservice-based OMC (Operations & Maintenance Center) management and control system. According to ZTE, the test covered all the test items of OMC cloudified architecture, OMC basic functions, security management and northbound interfaces. ZTE also reports it has passed all the test items with its ElasticNet UME.

ZTE revenue growth strengthens to 13% in H1, net profit doubles

ZTE reported revenues for the six months of 2019 up 13.1 percent to CNY 44.61 billion, while net profit more than doubled to CNY 1.47 billion. The company said it expects net profit over the first nine months of the year to grow to CNY 3.8-4.6 billion, helped in part by a real estate sale.

Chinese mobile operators are considering working together to build 5G networks in order to limit the costs, the Nikkei Asian Review reports. The second- and third-ranked carriers, China Telecom and China Unicom area already close to an agreement.

The launch of 5G in China will be key to the 5G smartphone market taking off in the coming year, according to Strategy Analytics. The market researcher expects global sales of 5G smartphones will reach 160 million in 2020, if 5G takes off as expected in China. Huawei is best positioned to capture the majority of China's 5G smartphone sales and could leverage that success to regain its global smartphone standing, the company said.

Huawei's first 5G-compatible smartphone, the Mate 20 X 5Gs went on sale on 16 August in China. One million customers pre-ordered the phone priced at CNY 6,199 (USD 881), reports the Nikkei.

Turkcell hits 2.283Gbps speed over 5G-enabled smartphone

Turkcell said it reach the world record speed of 2.283Gbps and also created Turkey's first 5G signal over a 5G test network using a 5G-compatible smartphone. The speed test yielding download speeds of 2.283Gbps was conducted on a smartphone compatible with the allocated 3.5GHz frequency using 100 MHz bandwith. The top speed recorded in the test was 2.283Gbps in Turkcell's 5G-field in Istanbul.

Elisa Finland claims to have sold first 5G phone in Nordic region

Elisa Finland claimed that the first 5G phone in the Nordic countries was sold on 03 July to Harri Hellstrom at its Elisa Kulma flagship store in Helsinki. The ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G handset was handed over by Veli-Matti Mattila, the CEO of Elisa. Hellstrom is a resident of Tampere, where one of the first Elisa 5G networks is located.

ZTE, in partnership with China Mobile, has demonstrated a 5G MU-MIMO (Multi-User, Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) multi-user performance test based on 5G commercial base stations and smartphones at Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2019. This MU-MIMO test was carried out in China Mobile's Guangzhou 5G field, using ZTE's 160M full-band 4/5G dual-mode commercial base station.
