Elisa Finland claims to have sold first 5G phone in Nordic region

Elisa Finland claimed that the first 5G phone in the Nordic countries was sold on 03 July to Harri Hellstrom at its Elisa Kulma flagship store in Helsinki. The ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G handset was handed over by Veli-Matti Mattila, the CEO of Elisa. Hellstrom is a resident of Tampere, where one of the first Elisa 5G networks is located.

Elisa is also taking reservations for 5G models from Huawei and OnePlus with deliveries due to begin by the end of July. Elisa has implemented 5G networks in Turku, Tampere and Jyvaskyla. In Helsinki, the network is in the pilot and test phase. Antti Ihanainen, vice president for consumer subscription business, said demand for 5G devices and subscriptions will increase as network coverage expands.

In honour of the first 5G phone in the Nordic countries, Elisa Kulma is exhibiting prominent mobile phones of the past 14 July.

Elisa names Kuopio as location for eighth 5G network

Finnish operator Elisa said it will hold a presentation from noon to 16:00 hrs on 13 November of its eighth 5G network, which will operate in Kuopio. Its 5G bus will be parked at Kuopio marketplace that afternoon. Initially, the new network will operate in the city centre before expanding to the Savilahti and Niirala districts, among others.

Elisa supports virtual riverside walk in Turku for elderly people with poor mobility

Finnish operator Elisa said it has joined forces with Turku city council and 360Mediatalo to provider virtual walks along the Aura River via 5G, aimed at older people with mobility problems. The virtual reality (VR) project was run by Turku council's 'Smart and Wise Turku' project.

Elisa Finland offers cheaper 5G subscriptions to improve take-up

Finnish operator Elisa said it has begun offering affordable 5G voice and broadband subscriptions to consumer and corporate customers. They provide service at up to 300 Mbps on both 4G and 5G networks and supply more EU roaming data than 4G subscriptions in the corresponding price range. SVP for Personal Business Jan Virkki said there are customers who have bought a 5G device from Elisa but not a 5G subscription.

Elisa 5G network supports Wi-Fi on 3 buses in Turku on trial basis

Finnish operator Elisa said three buses running on routes 3 and 30 in Turku have been fitted with Wi-Fi connectivity using Elisa's 5G on a trial basis. Public transport operator Foli has had the three vehicles equipped with 5G routers that link to Wi-Fi. When there is no 5G network available along the bus route, the Wi-Fi utilises the 4G network.

ZTE launches first 5G smartphone in China

ZTE has started selling its first 5G smartphone in China, the company announced on its Wechat account, Xinhua news agency reported. First unveiled at MWC in February, the Axon 10 Pro 5G supports the 5G frequencies used by China's three mobile operators.

Elisa to deploy 5G at Port of Helsinki's western harbour this autumn to serve passengers

Elisa said it has signed a letter of intent with the Port of Helsinki to introduce 5G to ship passengers at the Western Harbour of Helsinki. They aim to deploy a commercial 5G network for the interior of West Terminal 2 and outer areas of West Harbour during autumn 2019. At the same time, a suitable operating model for the construction of indoor 5G will be explored for other passenger terminals in Helsinki.

Finnish operator Elisa and the Swiss operator Swisscom claim they are the first in the world to offer their customers a chance for 5G roaming. Elisa's and Swisscom's customers can now use 5G network when traveling in Finland or in Switzerland. Elisa said it's now among the first operators in the world to offer its customers a chance to use a 5G network in Switzerland with Swisscom.

Elisa Q2 revenue dips as equipment sales fall, mobile subscribers up 31,300

Finnish operator Elisa said that revenue in the second quarter decreased by EUR 6 million to EUR 452 million, mainly because of lower equipment sales, and lower interconnection and roaming revenue. Mobile service revenue increased by 1.9 percent to EUR 205 million as mobile subscriptions rose by 31,300 from the first quarter.

Finnish operator Elisa said it has launched its first  5G voice subscriptions and compatible phones for both consumer and business customers. This follows the launch of 5G mobile broadband subscriptions and routers at the end of April. Elisa offers 5G services at 1 Gbps and 600 Mbps.

It expects to begin delivery around 10 June approximately. Two different broadband speeds are available, specifically 600 Mbps and 1 Gbps, and pricing will depend on speed and latency.
