3 UK has launched its first 5G smartphone and announced that it will provide 5G access to customers at no extra cost when it launches its network later this year. This applies to all new and existing customers, with no speed caps and no extra cost on all contract, SIM-only and PAYG mobile plans.
The mobile operator said it will be emphasising the benefits of unlimited plans so customers can make the most of 5G. This is similar to Vodafone's new offer of unlimited data launched with its 5G network, which varies in price depending on the speed customers take. EE has also launched dedicated 5G plans for customers who want to access 5G services.
The 3 network is planned to launch in an initial 25 cities by the end of 2019. Customers with a 5G device will have immediate access, and 3 has launched sales already of the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G phone. The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G are planned to follow within the coming month.
3 UK previously said it plans to start 5G services in August, initially with a home broadband service in London.
