Acer CEO resigns over strategic differences
Acer's CEO and president Gianfranco Lanci has resigned from the company with immediate effect over strategic differences with the board. Group chairman JT Wang has taken the role of acting CEO on an interim basis. Acer stated that Lanci held different views from a majority of board members regarding scale, growth customer value creation, brand position enhancement, resource allocation and methods of implementation. Acer said it will continue to push for globalisation, follow its multi-brand and channel business model, develop competitive products and services, and foster closer relations with key vendors and channel partners. As a consequence of Lanci's resignation, Acer's deputy president of EMEA, Walter Deppeler, has become Acer EMEA president with immediate effect. Lanci was Acer EMEA president as well as Acer group CEO and president.

Acer creates Touch division for mobiles, names new president

Acer announced a major reorganisation of its business, effectively splitting the company into two divisions, for mobile devices and PCs. The move comes as the company issued another sales warning, saying it expects its PC shipments in the second quarter to fall by around 10 percent from the previous quarter. This follows a 10 percent sequential decline already in Q1. Acer to bring Windows, Android tablets to NL in May

Computer manufacturer will introduce its touchscreen tablets to the Dutch market in May, Automatisering Gids reported. The Iconia Tab A500 has a 10.1-inch touchscreen and runs on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). The device is likely to sell at EUR 499-599. The W500 runs on Windows 7 and will cost EUR 499-799.

Acer warns of weak PC sales in Q1

Acer warned that its first-quarter revenue from PCs is expected to fall short of expectations, due to weaker demand in Western Europe and the US. The company estimates a revenue decline of around 10 percent from the fourth quarter 2010. For Q2 2011, Acer expects its PC shipments flat over Q1. Acer started shipping tablet PCs in March, and will launch several new models in Q2 to ramp up the unit shipments, it said.
