Amazon launches Android app store
Amazon.com has launched its own mobile app store for the Android platform. Available online and through a dedicated mobile app, the store offers free and paid apps, including a 'Test Drive' function to test apps on a simulated Android phone. To promote the launch, Amazon has the exclusive release of Angry Birds Rio, the latest version of the popular mobile game built around the film Rio, which will be offered free to customers for a limited time. Amazon will also offer exclusively ad-free versions of Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons. The Amazon Appstore includes Amazon store features such as personalized recommendations, customer reviews, and 1-Click payment options. There will also be detailed product descriptions, including screenshots and video content that shows apps in action. Amazon tests all apps before they're made available in the store. The store is currently only available in the US.
