Amazon announced a new smaller edition of its Echo Show smart display. The Echo Show 5 comes with a 5.5-inch display and HD camera, and is designed to be put around the house so customers can have multiple versions of the smart home device for different tasks. The new display costs USD 89.99.
Amazon said the compact form factor is "perfect for a bedside table or desk", plus the Echo Show 5 has a camera shutter to ensure privacy when the camera is not in use. The company also added new features to its digital assistant Alexa to help allay customer concerns about the privacy of the connected displays, such as a skill to delete recent commands and related recordings and an Alexa Privacy Hub to access more info and controls for Alexa.
A new smart home dashboard available on all Echo Show devices also gives users more control over compatible smart home devices and groups, such as smart lighting, thermostats or security cameras. Echo Show 5 also has two-way talk functionality with the Ring doorbell cameras sold by Amazon.
The Echo Show 5 is available in the colours Charcoal and Sandstone for pre-order and will start shipping in the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Canada, New Zealand and Australia next month and to India in July. It will also be available in Mexico soon, Amazon said.
