The English Premier League has sold the remaining two UK live rights packages to BT Sport and Amazon Prime Video, concluding the sale process for all its live broadcasting rights in the UK and Ireland for the three seasons from 2019/2020 to 2021/2022. Premier League Executive Chairman Richard Scudamore welcomed Amazon as an 'exciting new partner' and said that Prime Video would provide an excellent platform to watch matches.
In a statement, Amazon said that live matches, as well as weekly highlights packages, would be available on Prime Video in the UK at no extra cost to a Prime membership. The Premier League adds to Amazon Prime Video's growing line-up of live sports, including ATP World Tour Tennis, US Open Tennis and NFL games.
The Package G acquired by BT Sport includes the rights to broadcast 15 matches from two midweek fixture programmes and five matches from the split weekend. This brings the total number of live games to be shown by BT Sport to 52 matches per season. The Package F acquired by Amazon Prime Video includes the right to show 20 live matches per season from one Bank Holiday and one midweek fixture programme.
In the UK, the rights consist of 200 live games a season, divided into seven packages. Five of these were sold in February - four to Sky Sports (totalling 128 matches per season) and one to BT Sport (32 matches per season).
The Premier League has also concluded the sale of rights packages in Ireland, covering 233 live matches split into eight packages - the same seven packages as in the UK plus an extra package of 33 Saturday matches kicking off at 15.00 hours. Sky Sports has acquired four packages, covering 128 matches per season. BT Sport has acquired two packages for 52 games per season, and Premier Sports has acquired two packages for 53 matches per season.
