Apax Partners to buy Malta operator Melita
Apax Partners is continuing its expansion in the telecom market with the acquisition of Malta operator Melita. In cooperation with Fortino Capital, Apax agreed to buy the cable and mobile operator from a consortium of private equity companies led by GMT Communications Partners and M/C Partners. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

GMT first invested in Melita in 2007, and the shareholder said that Melita's annual EBITDA has since doubled, from EUR 16 million to over EUR 31 million this year. Melita's network covers 99 percent of homes in Malta and it counts over 110,000 unique subscribers. It also operates its own mobile network, submarine cable, data centre and public Wi-Fi network.
