Altice agrees sale of Cabovisao, Oni to Apax
Altice announced an agreement to sell Portuguese operators Cabovisao and Oni to private equity group Apax France for an undisclosed sum. Altice agreed earlier this year to sell the companies in order to to secure regulatory approval for its acquisition of PT Portugal. In addition to private equity funds, Vodafone Portugal was also reported to be interested in cable operator Cabovisao and business services provider Oni, in order to expand its growing fixed business in Portugal. Cabovisao is the second-largest cable operator in Portugal, with more than 900,000 homes passed and 200,000 subscribers. It offers pay-TV, internet and fixed telephony services. The sale of Cabovisao and Oni remains subject to approval by the European Commission and Portuguese authorities and is expected to close by the end of 2015.

Portugal's Cabovisao rebrands as Nowo

Portuguese operator Cabovisao has relaunched as Nowo, changing both its image and business model. The basic offer will consist of a 100 Mbps internet connection for EUR 19.99 per month, with 33 TV channels. Apax Partners is continuing its expansion in the telecom market with the acquisition of Malta operator Melita. Portugal's Competition Authority (AdC) approved the acquisition of Cabovisao and Oni by Altice subsidiary Cabolink. The regulator said that the sale to Apax is not likely to create significant barriers to competition. Portugal's Regulatory Authority for the Media (ERC) issued a favorable opinion on the sale of Cabovisao and Oni by Altice to Cabolink, saying the transaction does not jeopardize media freedom. Altice improves cash flow 34% in Q3

Altice recorded a 2.9 percent fall in third-quarter revenues to EUR 3.844 billion. Portugal's Competition Authority has been notified of the proposed acquisition of Cabovisao and Oni by Apax France. Altice is selling the units as part of the regulatory conditions on its purchase of PT Portugal. PT innovation technology to be used by Altice group

The chairman of PT Portugal, Paulo Neves, said that the technology and innovations developed by PT Inovacao and Sapo will be used throughout the Altice Group, reports Diario Economico. Alice has set a book value of EUR 115 million for Portuguese telecommunications operator Cabovisao and Oni, which is well below the EUR 300 million that the French company would ask for Cabovisao alone, reports Diario Economico.
