Apple names Sony TV execs to lead video business
Apple announced the appointment of two former TV executives, suggesting it plans to expand further in video programming. Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg will lead video programming worldwide, reporting to Eddy Cue. 

They join Apple from Sony Pictures Television, where they served as presidents since 2005, and have been responsible for series such as Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul, The Crown and Rescue Me. They have extensive expertise producing television for global audiences and creating programming for a wide range of services including shows for Amazon, Hulu and Netflix. 

Apple launched its first video production, the series 'Planet of the apps', earlier this month. Previous reports have suggested the company is hoping to develop more original video content to add to its streaming music service subscriptions.

Apple adds live sports to TV app

Apple is expanding further with its own video services and announced the addition of live sports to its Apple TV app in the US. The Apple TV app is available to iPhone, iPad and Apple TV users to store and watch content they've purchased from iTunes as well as access other video providers. Apple is now offering sports apps from ESPN and the NBA so customers in the US can watch live sports over its app. More sports services will be added in future, Apple said.

Apple takes new creative director for video from BBC

Apple has hired a new creative director for Europe, worldwide video, the BBC reported, saying Jay Hunt is the former controller of BBC One and chief creative officer of Channel Four. Apple has not specified what the duties of Hunt will be, but she is expected to commission programmes on its behalf.

Apple shows small increase in sales, big boost to dividend

Apple reported a small increase in sales and profit for its fiscal second quarter to March, in line with its outlook, while also announcing a big increase in dividends and buybacks for shareholders. Apple has hired Timothy D. Twerdahl, the former head of Amazon's Fire TV unit, as vice president in charge of Apple TV product marketing, Bloomberg reports.
