Apple Music now has more US paid subscriptions than Spotify, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. Apple has a monthly growth rate of 2.6-3 percent while Spotify’s is at 1.5-2 percent, the sources said, adding that the Apple had over 28 million paying subscribers in the US in February, against 26 million for Spotify. The numbers are only for paying customers and do not either include people trialing the services. Neither company usually hands out customer numbers on a regional basis. Including non-paying listeners for its ad-supported tier, Spotify still has more users in the US.
Spotify said earlier that it had 207 million active users around the world in December, including 96 million paying subscribers or in a trial period leading to a subscription. Apple, which does not offer a free, ad-supported option, has over 50 million paying subscribers.
