Austrian court to rule over legality of frequency auctions
The Austrian higher administrative court will decide over the validity of the government's annual auction for mobile frequencies, reports Reuters. The last auction in 2013 brought the Austrian state EUR 2 billion. The highest bidder, Telekom Austria, paid EUR 1 billion to receive 50 percent of the whole spectrum, leaving Drei with no frequencies for the 800 MHzz range used for LTE connections. Drei and T-Mobile had appealed the auction saying that it was anticompetitive. Hutchison's Drei withdrew the appeal, but T-Mobile said that it was not planning to withdraw. The court is expected to take a final decision in November.
