B-lite to start TD-LTE rollout in Brussels
Clearwire Belgium's 4G brand b-lite has announced it will start rolling out LTE in Brussels. The company will use the 130 sites of Clearwire's old Wimax network, including 76 in Brussels, for TD LTE. Clearwire Belgium, acquired by local entrepreneur Max Heilbron from the US-based operator, is still looking for investors.

The Brussels region has in place a cumulative radiation standard of 3V/m for mobile mast. This is effectively preventing the rollout of 4G by MNOs, because they are almost at that limit with their 2G and 3G networks. B-lite said the norm will not be a problem because it will only have 4G to contend with.

The company is introducing triple play for a price it says is lower than Belgacom's or at cable operators. The Bhaalu TV service was developed by Right Brain Interface from Hasselt. A gateway is necessary to connect the Bhaalu set-top box and fixed telephone. The start-up has built a a cloud DVR system for streaming video to TVs and other screens. The company will provide the same channels as the TV Flanders Basic Light package, with 28 Flemish channels and a few foreign channels. The service is not linear: users must first record a programme and watch it later. Recordings are stored for up to 60 days, with a limited possibility of fast-forwarding commercials. VoIP is provided by 3StarsNet.

B-lite does not yet supply mobile services but is in talks about an MVNO contract.
