Baidu names Microsoft's Lu as president, COO

Chinese internet giant Baidu has appointed Qi Lu as its group president and chief operating officer, in charge of products, technology, sales, marketing and operations, effective immediately. Prior to joining Baidu, Lu served as Microsoft's global executive vice-president and led one of Microsoft's three business units.

Lu joined Yahoo! in 1998 and later became SVP in charge of search and advertising technologies and EVP in 2007. In 2009, he joined Microsoft as president of its Online Services Group. In 2013, Lu was appointed as Microsoft's global EVP in charge of its Office business.

Baidu wants to start producing self-driving cars on a mass scale by 2021. Li said the company remains on track to hit that target despite some technology issues that needed to be worked out.

Baidu posts declining Q4 revenues, profit

Chinese internet giant Baidu reported total revenues of CNY 18.2 billion (approximately USD 2.6 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2016, which represents a decline of 2.6 percent from the corresponding period in 2015. Mobile revenue accounted for 65 percent of total revenues for the fourth quarter of 2016, up from 56 percent in the year-earlier period. Total revenues in fiscal year 2016 were CNY 70.5 billion (approximately USD 10.1 billion), a 6.3 percent increase from 2015.

De benoeming gaat per direct in. Qi Lu is afkomstig van Microsoft waar hij de functie van Executive Vice President voor de Applications and Services Group bekleedde. Qi Lu trad in 2009 in dienst bij Microsoft na de overstap van Yahoo, waar hij sinds 1998 in dienst was.
