Base unveils own Android smartphone, made by ZTE
KPN's German subsidiary E-Plus flatrate brand Base has unveiled its own smartphone called lutea, which will be available from December of this year. The Base lutea includes a 5 Megapixel camera, 3.5 inch touch screen and integrated GPS receiver and is based on the Android operating system. The device also offers a 2 GB microSD storage card for storing content and was developed by Chinese telecommunications manufacturer ZTE. The Base Lutea can be used in combination with the Base Internet Flat Inklusive tariff costing EUR 14 per month including 200 MB at HSDPA speeds plus a Mein Base tariff. The tariffs have a minimal contract period of 24 months.

Base to double data before speed is throttled from 01 March

German mobile network E-Plus will double the data limit before speed is throttled for its Base internet flat-rate brand from 200 to 500 MB from 01 March, the company has confirmed to teltarif.de. This will apply to the EUR 10 per month handset/smartphone Base internet flat-rate. Once a user reaches 500 MB, speed will be throttled to GPRS levels (maximum of 56 kbps).

Base seeks new customers for advertising campaign

The Base flat-rate brand of German mobile network operator E-Plus is holding casting sessions to find new stars for its advertising campaign, which uses testimonials from real customers. These sessions are taking place daily in seven shops in Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Leipzig, Bochum and Stuttgart until 22 January. Thew new 'stars' will feature in billboards and TV ads. China-based telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE has opened an office In Darmstadt to expand its presence in Germany. The new office was specifically chosen by ZTE to support its ongoing partner Deutsche Telekom with building modern network infrastructure in Germany. E-Plus revenues drop 2.9%, Base to become focus brand

KPN's German subsidiary E-Plus reports a 2.9 percent drop in revenues to EUR 791 million in the fourth quarter of 2009 compared with the same period in 2008.
