Belgium plans 2.1, 2.6GHz spectrum auctions for spring

The Belgian government has reached an agreement on the issue of a fourth 3G licence. The necessary decisions have been sent to the king for signing and should appear in the state gazettte yet this year, according to BIPT head Luc Hindryckx. The explanatory memorandum will be available early next year. The plan is for an auction in April or May of a licence with 15MHz in the 2.1GHz band. A few weeks later the 2.6GHz band will be auctioned. No decision has been taken yet on the digital dividend spectrum. Candidates for the 2.6GHz band are the current operators Belgacom, Mobistar and KPN Belgium (Base), while cable operator Telenet has said it will not participate in the 2,1 GHz auction.
