Bell Canada customer data breached in hacking attack
Bell Canada has been hit an anonymous hacking attack that breached its customer data systems. The company said that the information obtained includes around 1.9 million active email addresses, 1,700 customer names and phone numbers. There is no indication that any financial, password or other sensitive personal information was accessed.

This incident is not connected to the recent global WannaCry malware attacks, the operator said.

Bell is informing the affected customers and apologised in a statement. The company said it took immediate steps to secure affected systems and is working closely with the RCMP cyber crime unit in its investigation. It also informed the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
