AtHoc's platform will integrate with BlackBerry's enterprise portfolio and global network. The acquisition will allow AtHoc to expand globally and increase scale, as well as deliver new applications on a secure platform for mass communications. For example, it could integrate AtHoc solutions with BBM Meetings during an alert to enable live video feeds or to transmit messages to provide real-time communications by leaders and decision makers.
AtHoc is a supplier to the US Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, as well as public and private enterprises around the world. BlackBerry said it expects to complete the acquisition in its 2016 fiscal third quarter, subject to customary closing conditions.
