Bouygues Telecom to launch 5G pilot with Huawei in Bordeaux

Huawei has expanded its partnership with Bouygues Telecom with a new agreement to test 5G services in the city of Bordeaux. The news follows the recent announcement from French telecom regulator Arcep that Bouygues Telecom has been granted a temporary licence in the 3.5 GHz band (3400 - 3800 MHz) to test 5G in Bordeaux, Lyon and Villeurbanne.

The authorisation covers a trial across three sites located in the Bordeaux metropolitan area, which will take place later this year, between May and September. The pilot will deploy multi-site coverage using Huawei's end-to-end (E2E) 5G platform.

Arcep makes progress on 5G roadmap with new consultation

French telecom authority Arcep has published a new consultation document as part of its preparations to auction 5G spectrum in the 1.4-1.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands. Bouygues Telecom reaches speed of 2.3 Gbps in live 5G test in Bordeaux

Bouygues Telecom has inaugurated its 5G pilot in the Bordeaux metropolitan area by completing a public demonstration and a live test achieving a download speed of 2.3 Gbps, with an upstream bandwidth of 260 Mbps and a latency of 7.5 milliseconds. The operator has also announced the launch of SmartX_5G, an accelerator programme focusing on several areas of strength within the Bouygues group (smart cities, connected buildings, mobility and entertainment).

B.Com secures 3.5 GHz spectrum for 5G tests in Rennes and Lannion

French regulator Arcep has issued a frequency authorisation to develop 5G pilots in the 3.5 GHz band (3400 - 3800 MHz) to B.Com, one of France's state-funded technology research institutes. The tests will be carried out in two locations in Brittany, Rennes and Lannion, where B.Com's partners Orange, Nokia, TDF, and Enensys, will also be able to take advantage of the research facilities.

Bouygues Telecom launches new fixed broadband plans, 4K STB, 'guaranteed internet' pledge

Bouygues Telecom will refresh its fixed broadband proposition on 23 April with the introduction of three new plans replacing its current Bbox offering. As part of this announcement, the operator has also officially launched an enhanced STB supporting 4K content and has integrated a 'guaranteed internet' pledge within its fixed broadband offering, based on a back-up of 60 GB of 3G/LTE data.

Arcep gives green light for 5G pilots to Orange and Bouygues Telecom

French regulator Arcep has issued the first frequency authorisations to develop 5G pilots in the 3.5 GHz band (3400 - 3800 MHz), after inviting applications from interested parties in January. Orange will be allowed to use a portion of spectrum for twelve months, starting from June, in the cities of Lille and Douai. The operator had already announced the timing of these pilots, alongside its plans to test 5G-based fixed access in Romania.

Orange taps Kathrein and Nokia for 4G/5G single antenna

German manufacturer Kathrein, a specialist in base station antennas, said that it is working with Nokia on a new antenna that will support Orange's future 5G deployment. The news was confirmed by Orange in its announcement of planned 5G test sites in France and Romania, due to go live in the second half of the year. Currently in prototype phase, the new device will be compact enough to be installed on the operator's existing mobile towers.

Free Mobile receives green light for 5G technical trial in Paris

French regulator Arcep granted Free Mobile permission to carry out a 5G technical trial in Paris using the 3600 - 3700 MHz frequency band. The authorisation was issued for the period between 09 and 13 October and the location of the trial was the capital's eighth arrondissement, where the operator is headquartered.
