BSkyB ends Q3 with 11.42 million retail customers

British Sky Broadcasting added 764,000 new paid-for subscription products in the third quarter 31 March, with additions for the nine months reaching 2.4 million. It added 74,000 net new TV customers in Q3. Revenue for the nine months was GBP 5.66 billion, up 6.6 percent from GBP 5.13 billion a year earlier, with EBITDA down 2.4 percent to GBP 1.22 billion, from GBP 1.25 billion, and operating profit down 8.5 percent to GBP 910 million, from GBP 994 million. It ended Q3 with a total of 15.02 million customers, up 409,000 from 14.61 million a year earlier, with retail customers up 608,000 to 11.42 million, from 10.81 million. ARPU was GBP 571 in Q3, up from GBP 567 in the year-earlier quarter.

Total paid-for products reached 34.07 million at end-March, up 3.84 million from 30.23 million a year earlier, with TV accounting for 10.61 million, up from 10.39 million. HD products reached 5.11 million, up from 4.67 million, with multi-screen products up to 2.54 million, from 2.48 million; Sky Go Extra products up to 927,000, from 44,000; broadband products up to 5.19 million, from 4.38 million; phone products up to 4.89 million, from 4.20 million; and line rental products up to 4.78 million, from 4.05 million.

The number of  internet-connected Sky+HD boxes reached 4.95 million, up from 2,.28 million at end-March 2013, with the number of Sky Go unique users up to 3.68 million, from 3.26 million. BSkyB added 70,000 net new broadband products in Q3, with 37 percent of customers taking all three TV, broadband and phone services at end-March. It added 90,000 retail customers in the third quarter and connected a further 600,000 Sky+HD boxes.
