BT pledges no coronavirus-related job cuts; CEO Jansen donates salary to charity

BT has committed to no job losses related to the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis for the foreseeable future (at least the next three months), as well as a pay increase for 'team member' workers and pay freeze for managers.

Throughout this period, BT will continue paying all employees' salaries in full and will not put any staff on publicly-funded furlough. It is also supporting thousands of staff who cannot work, protecting the jobs of 400 new engineers who cannot be trained at the moment, as well as reskilling and redeploying many of the 4,200 retail staff to support vulnerable customers.

BT is offering an annual pay increase of 1.5 percent to all UK team members (non-managerial staff) with effect from 01 July 2020. At the same time, it will not make an annual pay increase for managers in 2020/2021. BT has also confirmed a previous commitment to awarding all employees GBP 500 worth of shares in June, with this 'yourshare' scheme amounting to an around GBP 50 million investment this year.

In addition, BT Group CEO Philip Jansen will donate his salary to the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 appeal, as well as to affected small businesses in his local community, for at least the next six months.
