China Mobile launches Italian MVNO on WindTre network

China Mobile International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Mobile, has officially launched a new MVNO on the Italian market, offering three plans mainly aimed at the Chinese community. The MVNO is called CMLink Italy and will be using the 4G network of WindTre, which recently topped Ookla’s H2 speed ranking.

All three of CMLink Italy’s inaugural plans come with unlimited calls in Italy, 1,000 minutes of calls to China, 200 SMS, plus 200 roaming minutes and 3GB of roaming data for use in continental China. They are available at the promotional price of EUR 8.99 a month for 35GB (Enjoy35), EUR 10.99 for 80GB (Enjoy80) and EUR 13.99 for 100GB (Enjoy100).

The promotional prices are available to anyone porting their number from their current operator, with those requiring a SIM card paying EUR 1 instead of EUR 10 for the card and activation fee by way of a launch offer.

Chinese customers can also activate the 1-Card-Multi-Number (1CMN) service for EUR 4 a month to associate a China Mobile mobile number in China or Hong Kong to the CMLink Italy SIM to receive SMS, bank notifications and OTP verification codes of the Chinese number directly on the Italian number.

WindTre expands Call Your Country plans to foreign nationals of 6 more countries

WindTre revenues down 4% to EUR 4.7 bln in 2020, sheds nearly 2 mln clients

Italian operator WindTre reported full-year revenues for 2020 down around 4 percent year on year to 4.65 billion, attributed above all to a near-2 million decline in its customer base due to aggressive market competition and the effects of the Covid pandemic. Full-year results released by owner CK Hutchison revealed that WindTre's EBITDA fell 5 percent year on year to EUR 2.0 billion, with the operator's EBIT declining by 16 percent in local to EUR 1.14 billion.

WindTre tops Italian mobile speed index in H2 with 47 Mbps

WindTre has consolidated its position as Italy's fastest mobile network during the third and fourth quarters of 2020, according to the latest report published by Ookla. The operator achieved an average download speed score of 46.9 Mbps across its networks, up from 43.9 Mbps in H1, well ahead of second-placed Iliad's average of 34.2 Mbps, Vodafone with 34.1 Mbps and Telecom Italia (TIM) with 32.2 Mbps.

Italian data consumption hits 9.2 GB per user in Q3, up 48% YoY

Average Italian data consumption continued to surge in the third quarter of 2020, reaching an average of 9.2 GB a month per user, up 48.0 percent on the year-earlier average of 6.2 GB, according to the latest quarterly update from regulator Agcom. The report said over 70 percent of human SIMs carried data traffic in the third quarter, with total traffic volumes rising to 4,608 petabytes in the July to September period compared to 3,024 petabytes a year earlier and 771 petabytes in Q3 2016.

Digi Mobil Italia begins migration to Vodafone network
