Italy's PosteMobile to debut FTTH offer in H2

The Italian post office (Poste Italiane) has confirmed plans to launch its first fibre-to-the-home offer in the second half of this year via its PosteMobile MVNO. After signing contracts with Telecom Italia (TIM) and wholesale operator Open Fiber last summer, the post office announced at the presentation of its new '2024 Sustain & Innovate' strategic plan that it will be rolling out its inaugural FTTH offer later this year with a view to boosting the cross-selling activity of its Payments and Mobile segment. The aim is to reach 5.1 million mobile and fixed line customers by 2024, rising to 5.3 million by 2025.

PosteMobile is already the country’s leading MVNO, with a total of 4.62 million customers at the end of 2020, plus revenues of EUR 74 million in the fourth quarter alone. Last year the post office also confirmed that Vodafone would be taking over from WindTre as PosteMobile’s mobile telephony services provider. Vodafone is already responsible for the MVNO’s ‘Casa’ home broadband service and was PosteMobile's original provider when it launched in 2007 before it migrated to Wind's network in mid-2014.

Poste Italiane acquires 70% of big data specialist Agile Lab

The Italian post office (Poste Italiane), owner of the PosteMobile MVNO, has announced the acquisition of a 70 percent stake in big data engineering firm Agile Lab group for around EUR 18 million. Poste said the transaction will serve to strengthens its ability to build data-driven activities for the market. The remaining 30 percent of the capital will remain in the hands of the group's founders, Alberto Firpo and Paolo Platter, who will continue as CEO and CTO, respectively.

PosteMobile prolongs unlimited 4G home data offer

Italian MVNO PosteMobile has again extended its 'PosteMobile Casa Web' offer, this time until 23 June. The online only plan includes unlimited internet at 4G+ speeds of up to 300Mbps for EUR 20.90 a month, instead of the usual price EUR 26.90, via a portable Wi-Fi router equipped with a mobile SIM card. The Wi-Fi modem is delivered to subscribers free of charge but a one-off activation fee of EUR 29 is required.

PosteMobile clients up to 4.8 mln ahead of fibre launch

The Italian post office (Poste Italiane) said its PosteMobile MVNO reached a total of 4.78 million mobile and fixed line customers at the end of March, up 272,000 or 7 percent year on year, with ARPU steady at around EUR 4.5. PosteMobile is by far the country's largest MVNO with around 5.6 percent of the market of traditional SIMs, up 0.3 percent year on year, according to the most recent report from regulator Agcom.

Under the promo, users who sign up online to the Creami Next 1 prepay plan pay EUR 4.99 a month instead of the usual EUR 10 to access download speeds of up to 300Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50Mbps. Italian MVNO PosteMobile has launched a new promotion tied to its PosteMobile Qui pet tracker, offering it at less than half the usual price until 29 May. The service includes a collar-mounted device that is mobile data and GPS enabled, allowing customers to locate their pet using an app on their smartphone. It's currently available for EUR 49 instead of the usual price of EUR 119 and comes with the collar device and a SIM card with PosteMobile's Creami 200 tariff for a year.

China Mobile launches Italian MVNO on WindTre network

Italian data consumption hits 9.2 GB per user in Q3, up 48% YoY

Average Italian data consumption continued to surge in the third quarter of 2020, reaching an average of 9.2 GB a month per user, up 48.0 percent on the year-earlier average of 6.2 GB, according to the latest quarterly update from regulator Agcom.
