China Mobile to launch 5G trials in Q2 - report
China Mobile plans to start large-scale 5G trials later this year. The company has confirmed it will run field trials in Shanghai, Hangzhou and three other cities from the second quarter of this year, with at least 100 basestations deployed in each, Chinese industry site c114 reports. The operator plans to deploy small-scale "apps demonstration" trials in a dozen other cities, including Beijing and Shenzhen, According to Liu Guangyi, CTO for terminal and wireless technology at China Mobile Research Institution, the trial networks will mostly run in the 3.5GHz band, with some 4.9GHz being deployed. 

Guangyi also said that China Mobile will focus on testing massive MIMO outdoor and network slicing. "After the [5G] standard is finished we can upgrade the software and then conduct tests for a pre-commercial system. Then we can offer a pre-commercial customer experience in the second half of next year", he said.

Du to trial 5G NR with Nokia

UAE operator Du announced it is actively working with Nokia to trial 3GPP-standardized 5G New Radio non-standalone technology, and subsequently deploy live 5G sites in selected areas in the UAE. Bharti Airtel, Huawei trial 5G network in India

Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel and Huawei have conducted India's first 5G network trial. The trial took place at Airtel's Network Experience Centre in Manesar, Gurugram, The Indian Express reports. The 5G trial involved a 5G RAN that operated on a 3.5GHz network band, with 5G core and a 50GE network slicing router. As part of these tests, a user throughput speed of 3Gbps was achieved, the companies said. The tests were conducted within a 100MHz bandwidth.

Nokia and China Mobile have signed an agreement to jointly investigate how China Mobile can extend its service offerings for vertical markets using 5G.
