CWC, Huawei test first LatAm G.fast service

Cable & Wireless Communications has announced that its Panama unit, Cable & Wireless Panama (CWP), and Huawei have held the first successful trial of a copper-based broadband service across Latin America using G.fast technology. The two-month pilot achieved average download speeds of 500 Mbps and upload speeds of 150 Mbps over CWP’s fixed lines, a fivefold increase compared to CWP’s existing copper residential service in Panama.

G.fast technology is based on the Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) method, with an improved algorithm that cancels noise, reducing the effects of crosstalk and allowing transmission of higher bit rates. Huawei said its G.fast technology can also by used to complement its HFC (Hybrid fiber-coaxial) and fibre-based delivery platforms.
