Delta Fiber secures EUR 2 bln funding to expand network to 2 mln premises

Delta Fiber has secured EUR 2 billion in financing to expand its fibre network in the Netherlands. The money will support the deployment of XGS-PON technology, which started in May already.

The banks ABN Amro, ING, SEB, Santander and Deutsche Bank have underwritten the facility, which includes a committed amount of EUR 1.45 billion and an optional extension of EUR 600 million. Delta Fiber expects the funds can help it expand to 2 million premises with fibre.

Delta Fiber is already the second-largest FTTH operator in the Netherlands. It focuses on covering smaller towns and villages across the country. The company said it doesn't fear the competition from KPN or newcomers ODF and E-Fiber, noting there are still around 4 million households without fibre access in the country.

Delta Fiber aims to reach 2 million premises passed in 2025, compared to almost 900,000 on its current footprint. The company is adding new premises passed at a rate of around 20,000 per month and expects the new financing to help it scale up capacity further.

The operator also wants to offer much faster internet speeds to customers. According to CEO Marco Visser, the company plans to make gigabit-plus speeds the new standard, available to as many people as possible. More details on the plans will be announced in the future.
