Deutsche Telekom announced a partnership with insurance group Ergo to bundle home insurance products with its smart home services. Unveiled at Ifa, the initial offer includes an emergency service if the smart home system detects a water leak, smoke or unauthorised access to the home. If the customer does not respond to the alert from the smart home system, Ergo's emergency services centre is alerted and takes action.
Telekom and Ergo also plan to introduce cybersecurity insurance for customers taking the telecom operator's internet security plan. This will protect customers from financial losses in the event of misuse of their customer or account data or fraud in online purchases. The policy will apply for all members of the household and should be available from early 2018. Ergo already offers a similar policy which Telekom customers can take for EUR 5.90 per year.
