Deutsche Telekom starts competition on innovative ideas for home networks

Deutsche Telekom said its R&D unit T-Labs will start an international competition on 15 January to find experts that bring innovative ideas for home networks. Deutsche Telekom scouts scientists in universities, research centres or from corporate and start-up environments. T-Labs is looking for scientific papers with ideas on the next generation of data distribution in home networks in the research team. It is also looking for improvements in the form of a technical proof of concept (PoC) to secure data that go through the home networks.

The jury includes Alexander Lautz, head of T-Labs, and external members such as Claudia Eckert, director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security (AISEC) and chair for IT Security at the Faculty of Informatics at the Technical University of Munich, as well as representatives from Deutsche Telekom.

The 20 finalists will have to elaborate ideas from April to the end of August. They will receive EUR 25,000 in funding for proof of concepts and EUR 2,000 for the research stream. The winner of the of the technical proof of concept contest will receive EUR 150,000 and the winner of the research stream EUR 75,000.
