Dutch govt proposes 3-yr extension in Digitenne licence
The Dutch government has proposed extending the digital terrestrial TV operating licences for three years when they expire 31 January 2017. The culture and economic affairs ministries said it was too early to say whether a new long-term licence should be issued in order to continue the DTT service. The three-year extension will give KPN enough time to transition the Digitenne service to DVB-T2 technology, which is needed for any further development of the digital TV service and to free up part of the 700 MHz band for mobile services. The decision was announced in a policy paper on DVB-T and the 700 MHz band. Interested parties can comment until 15 June on the proposal.
