Dutch VoIP market grows past 5 million lines
The Dutch consumer VoIP connections grew by 1.7 percent during the third quarter of this year to reach a total 5.05 million on 30 September, passing the 5 million mark during the quarter, according to Telecompaper’s quarterly report on the Dutch fixed telephony market. The growth of VoIP is driven by VoIP via fibre, up 7.1 percent during the third quarter and cable VoIP, up 2.1 percent that off-set the 0.1 percent decrease in DSL VoIP.

At the same time, the VoIP growth was able to off-set the 6.2 percent decrease in PSTN/ISDN lines and 0.7 percent drop in WLR connections leading to a 0.4 percent growth of all fixed telephony lines. The addition of 24,000 lines saw the market end September with a total of 6.26 million connections.

For the period up to 2017, Telecompaper expects an annual average of growth 1.2 percent per year with VoIP line growth continuing to compensate for the losses suffered by PSTN/ISDN.  The retail revenues for the consumer fixed telephony market amounted to EUR 334 million in the third quarter , down by 1.2 percent compared to the second quarter, according to the report.
