Equinix appoints new CEO
Data centre operator Equinix has appointed Charles Meyers its new CEO, effective immediately. Meyers, who will also join the company’s board of directors, succeeds Peter van Camp, who has been interim CEO since the departure of Steve Smith in January. Van Camp will resume his role as executive chairman. 

Meyers joined Equinix in 2010 as president for the Americas. He became COO in 2013 and has been serving as president of Strategy, Services and Innovation (SSI) for a year.

The aim is to build more data centres to meeting soaring demands for data. The site is not far from Clonee, where Facebook is building an EUR 300 million data centre site.

Last week in telecoms: limited volatility, Italy and Benelux in focus

Last week's telecoms market was characterised by limited volatility in share prices. The week's performance ranged between +6 percent and -6 percent, with just two outliers: Greek microcap Forthnet (-37%) and Russian MTS (+11%). Our index gained 1.3 percent, slightly behind the EuroStoxx 50 index's gain of 1.6 percent.

Equinix reports 9% organic revenue growth in Q2

Data centre operator Equinix reported second-quarter revenues of USD 1.26 billion, up 9 percent organically (+10% in Q1). Equinix CEO Smith resigns, Van Camp named as interim CEO

Van Camp served as CEO of Equinix for seven years (2000 to 2007). Since 2007, he has served as executive chairman of the Equinix board of directors. During his tenure, Van Camp remained highly engaged in the day-to-day business and played an active role in every major decision the company has made. Van Camp will retain his executive chairman responsibilities during the interim period.
