Ericsson chairman Johansson to step down

Ericsson announced that its chairman Leif Johansson plans to step down. Johanssen told the company that he would not stand for re-election at next year's annual shareholders meeting. 

Johansson has served as chairman since 2011 and said it was "an exciting but also challenging time". With the new CEO Borje Ekholm starting this year and presentation of a new business strategy, Ericsson is entering a new phase. With new shareholders as well, "it is natural to let the owners jointly propose a chairman", Johansson said in a statement. 

Cevian Capital acquired an over 5 percent stake in Ericsson in May. The new investor was subsequently granted a place on Ericsson's nomination committee.

Ericsson confirms slot for Cevian on nomination committee

Ericsson confirmed that the investor Cevian Funds has been granted a seat on the company's nomination committee. Cevian informed Ericsson that its shareholding had reached a level significant enough that it has the right to participate in the committee. Cevian named managing partner Christer Gardell as its representative in the nomination committee, which consists of a total six members.

Ericsson saw its net loss swell to SEK 10.9 billion for the first quarter, as sales showed little improvement and the company took a number of charges for restructuring. Ericsson reported a net loss of SEK 1.6 billion for the fourth quarter compared to a profit of SEK 7.0 billion a year earlier, due to increased restructuring charges and continued weakness in the mobile broadband market. Ericsson names board member Ekholm as new CEO

Ericsson has named board member Borje Ekholm as its new President and CEO, effective 16 January 2017. Ekholm is currently CEO of Patricia Industries, a unit of the investment group Investor AB, a shareholder in Ericsson.
