Ericsson makes changes to executive team

Ericsson’s board of directors appointed Fredrik Jejdling as EVP, effective 7 November. Jejdling also keeps his role as head of Business Area Networks and member of the Ericsson Executive Team. At the same time, EVPs and advisors to the CEO Jan Frykhammar and Magnus Mandersson will leave their roles as EVPs and the Ericsson Executive Team, effective 7 November. Both Frykhammar and Mandersson will leave Ericsson to pursue other opportunities, the company said in a press release.

Telavox promotes Flow PBX as a service at MWC, adds Ericsson ex-CEO to board

Swedish B2B provider Telavox said it will attend the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona from 26 February to 01 March for the start of international efforts to promote its cloud-based PBX system, Flow, using the platform as a service model. It is targeting mobile and fixed operators and carriers worldwide and aims to compete with Mitel, Broadsoft and Cisco. Telavox signed up Johan Dalstrom as CCO in autumn, and is appointing Ericsson's former CEO Jan Frykhammar to its board from 01 April.

Ericsson plans SEK 14.2 billion in impairment charges in Q4

Ericsson announced it will take a total of SEK 14.2 billion in impairment charges in its Q4 2017 results. In addition to writing down the value of old assets, the company will take a charge for the corporate tax reform in the US. The one-time items are expected to leave the company deep in the red for 2017.

Ericsson offers mobile-first data management advertising service Emodo

Ericsson said it has launched Emodo, a mobile-first data management and advertising service. With more than 1.3 billion user profiles in its Data Management Platform, Ericsson Emodo lets advertisers use their existing workflows and reach audiences without breaching privacy. Emondo uses Ericsson's customer base of global network operators to create a secure, anonymised, "privacy-by-design" database of carrier-derived data enhanced with other quality datasets, it said.

Ericsson net loss swells to SEK 4.3 billion in Q3, sales fall 6%

Ericsson saw its net loss widen to SEK 4.3 billion for the third quarter, from SEK 0.2 billion a year ago, due to a number of one-time restructuring costs and writedowns. Revenues at the network equipment maker also fell 6 percent, to SEK 47.8 billion, and adjusted operating profit, excluding all the charges, was breakeven.

Ericsson says 28% of operators expect to deploy 5G in 2018

Ericsson said its 5G Readiness Survey 2017 shows that many operators have accelerated preparations for 5G and that trials are being carried out by 78 percent of respondents. It said 28 percent of the respondents expect to deploy 5G next year.

Ericsson will simplify its organisational structure from 1 April, removing the two-tiered leadership structure, Executive Leadership Team and Global Leadership Team, and forming a single Executive Team. Ericsson said Jan Frykhammar has been appointed executive vice president and advisor to the CEO, after he stepped aside from his interim role of president and CEO, to make way for Borje Ekholm. Ekholm's appointment had been announced in October. Frykhammar had been acting up since July 2016 when Hans Vestberg abruptly stepped down as CEO and left the company.
