EU launches new satellite data systems with Atos, Orange

The European Commission has launched five Copernicus Data and Information Access Services for EU institutions, the European Space Agency and industry to use in Earth observation research and missions. The systems launched in Baveno, Italy include Mundi, developed by a consortium led by Atos and including Thales Alenia Space and T-Systems, and Sobloo, built by Airbus, Orange Business Services and Capgemini.

Atos' new Earth Observation (EO) Platform, officially named Mundi Web Services, is live and being used by several clients. This platform is backed by a newly-created consortium, composed of DLR, e-Geos, EOX, GAF, Sinergise, Spacemetric, Thales Alenia Space and T-Systems, which is led by Atos, on behalf of the European Commission and ESA (European Space Agency). Sobloo allows citizens, businesses and organisations from all over the world to access all Copernicus data/information and additional EO and Non-EO data collections.

Sobloo also offers easy access to all Copernicus data and information to the scientific community, general public, entrepreneurs and start-ups who wish to process the data to provide their own Copernicus based services. It uses the Flexible Engine public cloud offering unveiled by Orange in February. The Sobloo platform was designed to suit all types of users’ profiles with different entry points and functionalities. It's an open geospatial community for people looking for data and related services, as well as developers looking for a dedicated environment to create new applications.
