European smart home device shipments up 23.8% in Q2 - IDC

Smart home device shipments in Europe reached over 24 million units in Q2 2021, up 23.8 percent from Q2 2020, according to the latest data from IDC.

This was the second consecutive quarter in which the European smart home market grew by over 20 percent. The market is expected to reach over 203 million units in 2025, a CAGR of 13.5 percent from 2021 to 2025. Shipments  of video entertainment units were up 18.7 percent year-on-year to 11.9 million in Q2 2021, to account for 49.2 percent of the market. Smart speaker shipments were up 22.8 percent to over 5.6 million units; with shipments of home monitoring/security, lighting and thermostats up 39.5 percent year-on-year. 

Amazon was the leading vendor in Europe in Q2 with shipments of 3.89 million units, up 1.9 percent from 3.82 million units a year earlier, for a 16 percent market share. Google was in 2nd place with 3.11 million units, up 40.2 percent from 2.22 million in Q2 2020, for a 12.8 percent share. Samsung was in 3rd place with 2.50 million units, up 20.2 percent from 2.08 million units in Q2 2020, for a 10.3 percent share.
